How to Find Easy-to-Rank Keywords (and Avoid False Positives)

“Easy” should mean realistically approachable for your specific site—not simply a green score in a tool.

Why easy is relative

The same keyword can be easy for an established specialist and difficult for a brand-new site. Authority, topical relevance, content quality, links, intent match and SERP composition all affect the opportunity.

Check page-level competition

Examine the actual pages in the top ten, not just domain-level metrics. A strong domain may have a weak, poorly targeted page; a small domain may have an excellent page with deep relevance.

Watch for misleading signals

Forums can indicate conversational or experience-driven intent rather than a weak result. A low-authority page can also be ranking temporarily or because it has strengths a metric does not capture. Treat signals as evidence to investigate.

Match content format

If the SERP is dominated by product pages, a long essay may not fit. If it is dominated by tutorials, a thin category page may fail. Match the dominant intent unless you have strong evidence that searchers want something else.

Create a ranked shortlist

Score your shortlist using relevance, monetization value, SERP opportunity, content effort and internal-link value. Then publish the best combination, not simply the lowest difficulty number.
